If your hair feels fragile during GLP-1 treatment, review the heat tools in your weekly routine.
Give your morning routine more time
AAD suggests a microfiber towel to shorten drying time and reduce blow-drying. Its guidance also advises against hot-oil treatments because they add heat to fragile hair. [1]
As a planning exercise, write down which days involve a dryer, an iron, or both. Choose one ordinary day to try a style that does not require heated finishing. Tell your stylist which part of your usual look you want to keep.
What the dryer study actually tested
A 2011 Korean laboratory study repeated washing and drying on hair tresses 30 times. It compared untreated hair, room-temperature drying, and dryer conditions pairing 15, 10 and 5 centimetres with measured temperatures of 47, 61 and 95°C. Surface damage increased with temperature; the cell membrane complex showed damage only in the naturally dried group. [2]
These were hair samples, not living patients or people taking GLP-1 medicines. The findings do not establish a personal safe-distance threshold or prove that air drying is generally worse. They do not override AAD's advice. [2]
Bring the routine to your appointment
AAD recommends seeing a board-certified dermatologist to identify the cause of hair loss. [1] Bring your tool list and describe when the change began. For a broader discussion, use our hair-shedding appointment guide.
