Itchy eyelids during GLP-1 treatment deserve a closer look before another eye cream joins the shelf.
Look beyond the eye cream
Thin skin around the eyes is susceptible to contact dermatitis. Makeup, remover, cleansers and even brief contact with metal tools can be involved. Stop using a product you suspect; if the rash persists or returns, a dermatologist can investigate, including whether another skin condition is responsible. [1]
Consider what travels from your hands
An eyelid reaction can come from nail polish or artificial-nail ingredients transferred when fingers touch the eye area. Your hands do not have to develop a rash. Shampoo running over an eyelid can also cause a reaction. These examples suggest questions for assessment, not proof of your trigger. [2]
Separate skin irritation from urgent eye symptoms
Allergy, blepharitis and conjunctivitis can cause itchy or flaky eyelids. Seek urgent assessment for eye pain, changed vision, light sensitivity, inability to open the eye, or a hot, painful swollen eyelid. In the UK, NHS guidance directs these symptoms to an urgent GP or optician appointment or NHS 111; elsewhere, use your local urgent eye-care service. [3]
AAD's US guidance and the UK's NHS guidance are not GLP-1 studies and establish no medication cause or cosmetic recovery guarantee. For product testing on unaffected skin, see our new skincare guide.
