A serum offered with laser treatment for acne scars may be supported by a study of early recovery. Before paying for it during GLP-1 treatment, check the measured outcome and the clinic's aftercare instructions.
Read the population beside the result
The Chinese study enrolled 66 people and analyzed 64. Eligible ages were eighteen to fifty; all analyzed participants had Fitzpatrick skin type IV. Serum went on one side of the face and saline on the other, beginning immediately after laser treatment. [1]
The day-seven result concerned scabs
Complete scab detachment at day seven occurred on 39 serum-treated sides, or 60.9%, versus 22 saline-treated sides, or 34.4% (p = 0.0026). By day fourteen, all scabs had detached. L'Oréal funded the trial and SkinCeuticals supplied the serum; the authors reported that these companies had no role in study design, execution, analysis or interpretation. [1]
My reading is that this supports a recovery discussion, without establishing a benefit for another formula or shallower scar depressions.
Have the clinic specify the home-care schedule
AAD recommends following individualized aftercare instructions after acne-scar treatment, including the products your dermatologist recommends. Treated skin may be sensitive. Wait for your dermatologist's approval before resuming makeup, and wash the treated skin as instructed. [2]
Bring the proposed serum's name and ingredient list to the pre-treatment visit. Ask for written timing: first application, amount, frequency, duration and the point when other products may return. Have the team explain whom to contact if the routine causes a problem. A trial protocol should not become a home-care experiment without that discussion.
AAD also emphasizes sun protection after acne-scar treatment, including broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30 or higher sunscreen and avoiding tanning and prolonged sun exposure. Ask how and when to use sunscreen within your procedure's healing plan. [2]
For the procedure discussion, see laser-resurfacing consultation questions. For a different topical claim, read the vitamin E scar-trial comparison.
