Considering laser removal for unwanted body hair during treatment? Start with eligibility before choosing a package.

Ask about experience with your skin tone

AAD says people of all skin tones can have laser hair removal, with a provider experienced in treating their skin tone. That is not a guarantee for every person or device. In inexperienced hands, injuries can include burns, blisters, infection and dark spots. [1]

AAD also recommends a dermatologist's assessment before using a home laser device; those devices are not suitable for everyone. [1]

Bring your skin and medicine history

AAD's preparation advice asks patients to disclose scarring tendencies, keloids, recent tanning, cold sores or genital herpes, and isotretinoin or other medicines. Include your GLP-1 prescription and nonprescription products. Ask your prescriber about any medication changes. [2]

Plan around tanning before the appointment

The preparation guidance advises avoiding tanning, including sunless tanners, and using broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher outdoors. Tell the dermatologist about a recent tan before setting the treatment date. [2]

This is US dermatology guidance, not evidence that GLP-1 use changes laser response or guarantees hair removal. For cosmetic color products, see our self-tanner precautions guide.
